Adding Memory May Help Speed Up Your PC
One simple way I've sound to speed up my pc is to add memory. Insufficient memory, random access memory (RAM), can be the source of slow computer performance. Many computer manufacturers offer low price computers that have the minimal amount of memory to run. Each upgrade to the Windows operating system and application upgrades seem to required more and more memory.
Nowadays memory is relatively inexpensive. If your PC only has 2 gig or ram, I recommend you add another 2 gig. Computers running Windows XP can only use up to 4 gig or ram so don't try to add more. For most PC users 4 gig will do the job. Windows 7 is capable of utilizing more than 4 gig of RAM. If you want more RAM check your computer specifications to see how much you can install.
Memory is easy to install but I highly recommend you have an experienced computer technician help you with the installation. You can damage your memory or the computer motherboard if you're not careful. If you choose to install the memory yourself, be sure to connect a grounding strap to your wrist to avoid damaging your computer from static electricity that may discharge when you tough the computer.
If you just surf the internet and use a word processor then more than 4 gig will probably be a waste of money. On the other hand, power users will benefit greatly from more RAM. Memory hungry programs such as video editing software or Adobe Photoshop will run much more efficiently with more RAM. These programs will use all the available RAM and then start writing the excess data to your hard drive. Typically hard drives run much slower than RAM. Computer performance will slow down each time the computer has to read or write to the hard drive.
